10. Wrap-up

Let’s put everything together and practice with a partner.

Remember:

  • Repeat - Keep saying the same thing while thinking what to say next.
  • Rephrase - Use different ways to express yourself.
  • Expand - Build on your opinion to give more information.
  • Active Listening - show an interest in your partner.
  • Quick Responses - Jump into the conversation. Don’t pause.

Talking points: Drinks, food, sport, hobbies, activities, places, people, TV shows, songs, books, celebrities, restaurants, shops, clothes, school subjects, and many more.

Expand with comparisons:

“I like tea more than coffee, I like tea as much as coffee ...”

“Tea is better than coffee, tea is as good as coffee ...”

Expand with reasons:

“I like Starbucks, Starbucks has good music ...”

“I like Starbucks ‘coz it has good music.” _‘coz = because_

Talk about dislikes:

“I don’t like coffee, I hate coffee, I can’t stand coffee ...”

“Coffee is terrible, coffee is the worst”

“Me, neither!”

Speaking English is a skill. The more you practice, the better you get and the easier it becomes.

Congratulations on completing “I like coffee”!
