Dear followers, I’ve decided to stop teaching English on social media.
As you can see from the chart below, my Speaking Practice channel on YouTube has gotten fewer and fewer views every week since I started it. It’s difficult to find the motivation to continue.

YouTube view count
YouTube as a Business
My plan for this channel was to add videos every week and get more subscribers. In addition to ad revenue (money from advertisements), I had hoped some students would sign up for online lessons with me.
Unfortunately, despite having 25,000 subscribers, I never got any students and earn less than a dollar a day from advertising.
It’s clear to me now that building an online community and making a business out of it is extremely (very, very) difficult and takes a lot of work. I have great admiration (respect) for English teachers on YouTube and Instagram. They work so hard!
A New Plan
Going forward, I’m going to create short, intensive English courses. Then I’ll approach (go to) local businesses to see if they are interested in hiring me to teach their employees.
I believe that there is still a demand for in-person lessons, especially for people who travel overseas for work, or for those in a hurry to pass an English exam.
If that fails, I’ll offer my courses online.
Thank You and Sorry
I’d like to thank you for supporting me until now, and I’m sorry that I can’t continue to make free videos and worksheets. I will try to update this blog, but probably not every week.
All the best,
Nick
