Article

In Japan, Chikuma High School in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, has a special program called the Rental High School Student Project. This program helps senior citizens in the community. It started two years ago and is part of the social studies class for third-year students. The students help older people with tasks they find difficult, like cleaning windows or gardening.

On May 14, sixteen students helped seniors with different tasks. For example, they cleaned windows for an 82-year-old woman and removed weeds for a 91-year-old man. The program is free and aims to build connections between young people and older generations.

"I want people to know about this program," said Honoka Miyazawa, a 17-year-old student. The school plans to continue this helpful project.
