Hello there! In today’s newsletter, I’d like to talk about starting afresh <\/em><\/strong>(new). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting Anew<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

April in Japan is when people all over the country start new schools, jobs, classes, and much more. For some people, they will move away, find a new home and start anew<\/em><\/strong> (again). For others, they will retire<\/em><\/strong> (finish working) and settle<\/em><\/strong> (calm down) into a routine of gardening, watching TV, and maybe starting a new hobby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, I’ll begin a new year of English classes at my school, “Nick’s English”, where I mostly teach groups of children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Side note:<\/em> It might surprise you to know that my mother was a teacher, too. She taught at a primary<\/em><\/strong> (elementary) school in England. Her two brothers, my uncles, were also teachers. One was the head of the languages department at a secondary<\/em><\/strong> (junior high, middle) school, and the other was a school principal <\/em><\/strong>(headmaster). And their mother? Well, my grandmother was an English teacher! \ud83d\ude01 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some common ways to talk about making new plans, starting again, and setting goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Turning over a new leaf<\/strong> – This means to start again with a new attitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Starting from scratch<\/strong> – Going back to the very beginning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Back to square one<\/strong> – Going back to the very beginning after failing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Wiping the slate clean<\/strong> – Going back to the very beginning, forgetting what happened before.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Out with the old, in with the new<\/strong> – Changing old habits, people or items for new ones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. A fresh start<\/strong> – Start again with a positive attitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Starting anew<\/strong> – Starting again with a positive attitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. New beginnings<\/strong> – Start again with a positive attitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Turning a new page<\/strong> – Starting again with a positive attitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. A clean break<\/strong> – Complete cut off everything from before and start a new chapter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
